I Say Stuff - A Community Oriented Blog - On Police and Sheriffs

Two nights ago I was driving into Suncrest with my husband when a vehicle came around the corner. It was of course night so I had my high beams on. As soon as I saw it I turned down my high beams.
Foolishly I flipped my high beams back on before the driver got past the front of my car. Not on purpose but it was an automatic reaction to the vehicle moving past me, I keep my fingers on the switch that is stupid behavior. I did it without thinking, assuming the vehicle had passed far enough past mine.
Immediately I knew I flipped them back on too soon and I felt terrible. I thought dang it I probably blinded the driver.

As we pass through life sometimes we do things that we can’t make up for. I sent a prayer out into the air hoping the driver was ok.
As I looked in the mirror the vehicle slowed. Then it turned around. I had a bit of a panic attack for when we do stupid things sometimes people get madder than all get out and road rage takes over. So for a few seconds as I watched in the mirror I was afraid it was one of these people.
I said to my husband I think we are in trouble. He said, you have to stop driving with your hand on the lights but keep going.
I was getting even more fearful when the red and blue lights came on. I was so thankful. I was getting pulled over by an officer. I could not have been more relieved. I put on my turn signal and quickly found a place to pull over. As I did so there was a huge four point deer standing right there on the side of the road. If the officer had not pulled me over that deer would have been in my bumper.
The officer came to the window and asked me if I knew why I was pulled over and of course I said yes immediately. I felt like an idiot and I deserved a ticket but I was so happy to have been pulled over and that it was an officer of the law and not someone with road rage.
I did my best to apologize even though I expected a ticket.
Pulling me over made me remember that I am not the only person on the road, I have to remember to be careful in my driving so as not to cause another harm in any way. Vehicles are big and fast machines. We cause accidents not the vehicles. But they are big powerful machines that can cause a serious accident. In my case, even though I did not do it on purpose, I still could have caused that officer to run off the road. I would have been responsible. It is better to feel bad about that than to feel bad about causing an accident. I will be careful from now on. It was one heck of a reminder. I ask you all to think about how you drive and consider those coming past YOU as well.
The officer and I, we has a few minutes of conversation after he checked my driver’s license and such. During that conversation he mentioned the climate towards officers socially and I felt the stigma in the air for a moment and it made me sad that an officer would go about their daily job with that hanging over their heads.
If you get pulled over be respectful, if you have done something wrong be an adult and take your medicine. It’s a ticket in most cases, sometimes it is only a warning. Don’t be upset, just take your just desserts and go on with your life.
We hire these men and women to do a job and it is a hard job. But the added stress… There are no words that can ease that for them considering what is happening across America.
Please support our police officers, our Sheriffs and our Deputies.

And Deputy, thank you, I will be praying for you every day.

Goodbye My Friend

Seems this is one of those weeks for loss. Two days ago I lost a friend. Until I got the news I had forgotten how we met, his wife told me I was his best friend and she knew why and she reminded me of our first meeting. She said he told everyone my interference in his life changed him forever.
I was still a young and impressionable woman, just off my first bout of very ill health and I was seeing the world through grateful eyes that I was alive. I walked a lot through the park downtown. I saw a guy casting towards the shore and as I walked by I said to him, "Casting near the shore here will only catch a bird, please be careful." He cursed me as I walked away. So I yelled out, "If you catch a bird and you play with it I'm going to punch you in the face." See, I have this issue of people hurting animals for play.
I was walking in the park downtown a few days later when I came across a duck struggling to get away from a fishing line he had swallowed.. I looked up and that pesky guy from a few days before was yanking on the line. Man did I get pissed off. I decided to intervene, something I do at times when things are wrong. Even back then this was a key action in my life. I grabbed the line and pulled the duck into my arms so I could remove the hook. This took some time for the poor duck was more than fifteen feet in the air trying to escape. Once I got him in my arms. I used a pair of fingernail clippers to cut the line. I got the hook out and checked for serious damage and then let the duck go.
Once I did let go of the duck I focused on the guy. As I approached him from behind an officer approached him from the side and began to give him a ticket. As I walked up and offered my ID as a witness I said to the cop, "it is a good thing you showed up I was intending on punching this guy." I don't remember the cops name but he said, "go right ahead, what he did deserves more than a ticket". So I did. The guy took it rather well even though his eye began to swell right away. He even said, "Well, you warned me the other day." Then I walked away rather glad I had helped that duck.
Back then instant justice was not considered wrong.
A few weeks later I ran into him at a church I decided to go to. It took a bit of time and we talked about what he did and about my punching him in front of a cop as if I could care less if I got in trouble after what he did. We became fast friends, he told everyone I was the only women to ever get the upper hand with him--literally.
Eventually I introduced him to the woman he married, she was a fortunate woman. They had a stellar marriage. When they moved to New York I really missed them both. He passed on from invasive cancer. I'm sure going to miss his emails and comments.
Please my friends, even if you have a "there she goes again saying stuff and you feel offended," remember, I do love you all even if some of the crap YOU pull annoys me too.
God made me who I am, I have embraced myself with every ounce of my identity, the good, the bad and the great parts (like the book I wrote for God.). If I can put up with me then you can too. I am who I am and nothing you can say will make me feel less that perfect--in God's eyes.
I don't care if you are of a different lifestyle, I don't care if our politics are different. I don't care if you are a different color than I, nor do I care if you are multicolored. You can have a penchant for things that I totally disagree with but frankly if I have invited you into my life then it is because I have found something very special in you that makes me want to have you as at the very least a social media friend. If you needed me I would be there if it were within my ability to do so.
Stop the negativity and just love each other, life is just too short.

John 15:22 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you."

The Audion Version of Light Within Cobblestones Is Almost Here

If you have been waiting to listen to the audio version of Light Within Cobblestones, you are in for a treat. Tina Bjorklund, is one fine narrator. She is one heck of a master creator too. I am beyond happy. My eyes are tired over the rereading and checking for mistakes if any but man is she fabulous. If you need her you should hire her. The process can be slow at times but perfection should never have a clock anyway. Light Within Cobblestones the audio version is almost ready.

Religiously Humorous:

An older lady wended her way up the aisle at a new church to sit comfortably in the front row.

She followed everyone around her standing and sitting, even waving her arms in the air with her eyes closed during the worship portion of the service.

Once the pastor began to give the sermon she nodded off a bit. Quietly sitting in the front row here eyes closed and her head fell forward.

The pastor seeing the new parishioner seeming to fall asleep decided to make an example of her.

He walked off the stage and shook her shoulder gently and said "Sister? Are you sleeping?"

She slowly opened her eyes and gave the pastor a wary glance and said, "Just because my eyes were closed and my head was a bit forward does not mean I was sleeping, I wanted to focus on your magnificent words and closed my eyes to hep me pay attention."

The pastor said, "And your snoring?"

She said " I thought you needed some background music."

God's Gift To Me Is My Husband - Happy Valentines Day

Valentines is a day to share some love so I'm going to tell you a story I have kept to myself for a few years.

When the store was still open the January before we closed I go real sick. My husband was under strict orders to post happy things on facebook as if it were me, so no one knew just how sick I was.

About three weeks into my illness my chest was rattling so badly I had to wear earphones at night to be able to sleep. The noise was so bad from the death rattle. My dear husband would hover over me all night long. I had to use sleeping pills to get any sleep at all and they put me into such a deep sleep that it frightened my husband. I however was so out of it I did not know. One afternoon I felt a little better and bits and pieces of the prior few nights floated through my mind. I struggled with some of the memories so I decided to tape myself sleeping to see what I was doing at night.

When I watched the video later I was amazed. My husband was propped up in bed next to me. Every time I stopped breathing he would gently shake me and whisper, "It's not your time yet honey" ."and Don't leave me yet please, Honey, "God still has stuff for you to do", I love you", plus a few other sweet things and then he would shed tears and pat me to keep me from drifting completely off.

I thought about this early this morning and I know without a doubt my husband loves me. I wish that love between you and yours, all covered by God's gifts to each of us.

Happy Valentines Day

I did get better, I wrote a book for God too.

Amen Bro - A Neighbor's Gift

There are times when I am overly blessed by my husband, this event is one of those times. I drive in with my husband on his way to work. Often it is every other day. It is about twenty eight miles into town from where the house is located. It is always dark for the journey. When we first moved out into the woods I did not come to and fro with my husband but as we adjusted our budget we found if we car pooled we had more funds to work on our Huge Tiny House. Our budget has to be finessed as every step to be able to move forward. I have mentioned in quite a few blogs just how little we have to work with. I mention this because it is doubtful I would have ever known of this habit my husband has developed without the necessity of my travelling with him on the days he goes into town.

The first couple of times I did so I was completely surprised by his epithet as we sped into town. It was close to 3:30 AM and I had dozed off for getting up at such an early time was difficult for me to adjust to quickly. I kept getting annoyed at him for waking me up. Each of these first few days I kept missing what he was seeing.

Finally one morning, I managed to stay awake as we neared this moment in his drive. To my great pleasure and obviously his, my husband trumpeted his call. On the side of the road there was a cross made out of Christmas lights gleaming on the side of the house.

Just those two simple words each day at around 3:30AM and the sound of them makes my heart warm in delight.

Ultimately the greater blessings are one, the owners of the house offering this simple joy to each person that drives by on their way into Spokane. The second blessing is the images reminder of just where all our greater blessings come through, the sacrifice Jesus gave us on the cross.

The only way you can see them the cross is by going south on 291 below Big Sandy which is the great hill below the High School and Rosauers in Suncrest (Lake Spokane). When you head into town from Suncrest to Spokane and it is after dark you can glance to the right and see this sweet cross.
Now I know, each morning my husband drives by heading to work,  each morning he salutes the cross with his enthusiastic expletive in the form of his oath-like praise. A soft smile covers his face each morning as he goes by.

This may not mean much to others but my husband is a quiet fella who rarely if ever speaks out loud about God, but through this cross my husband had learned not only to shout out about God but he also began an everyday prayer because of the reminder. He prays for our neighbors, he prays for every stranger, he prays for the deer and turkeys along our path a we drive along. He prays about my writing and that people are blesses by my efforts and he asks for God to bless Jesus. He is blessed through this daily effort and I in the ripples that are created from his prayers am richly rewarded in his attention to them.

I love poetry but I’m not great at the form but I do like to try anyway, I am much better at regular writing, which you can see in my blogs and the first of several published Christian books. Below is my poetic acknowledgement to the wonderful people who live in that house.

Amen Bro
A man drives forth,
his way long paved,
the night at times cold or warm,
The passage not the point,
the end of which instigates his work day.
Insignificant but for a view along the way.
The cross it gleams upon the house, in passing,
He yells the heading of this piece each day.
The quiet house does not respond,
Yet speaks volumes through its twinkling array.

                                                                                 .
Now if that was the only way we have been blessed that would be more than enough. However, for the last week or two we have slowed down in an attempt to get the homeowners address so we could send them a note in appreciation. No luck, either there was someone tailing us close or as we drove slowly by we could not see any numbers on their house.

Finally with hope I went to the facebook page “Nine Mile Falls WA Community Awareness Association” and posted a note about our pleasure and appreciation as well as the hope we could find the address of these wonderful people. Again, we were blessed as I left facebook for the day we found out dozens of other people have been blessed as well. It is such a great joy to know just how many like-minded people live in the area where we reside.

For those of you who don’t do facebook one of the interactive items of using facebook is you can like a post. This might not mean much but you can tell how a post affects others. In this case, the last time I checked there were 104 likes as well as many thankful and appreciative comments.  The average person who actually interacts on facebook is actually one per thousand, so the facebook guru’s say. This interaction on this particular post tells us so much about where we live.

We finally have the address, and we have sent along a little thank you note for we feel a strong pull to let them know how they have affected us in such a positive way.

And thank you dear neighbors all of you for being our neighbors.

You are treasures in a world that seems to struggle nowadays in its love.

Bless you.

(Photo did not turn out I will try again later this week.)

10. What do you think is the greatest problem in the world?

Answer: Media and social media.

As I did my best I also ended up writing a blog about a question I decided should better be posted on my blog.

Yesterday I was supposed to be coming up with ten different questions that I would like to answer for an upcoming interview on No Boundaries Radio. I wrote an unusual blog instead. Now I have lots to do today.

All I can say is I like to shock people and if my being on this show shocks people then you might just want to tune in and see if I can handle the format. God did not tell me to go and speak to perfect Christians. I will leave it at that.

However, to further answer my answer here is my blog.

Each person in the world has a very small view of the world around them. Each person makes decisions based on their own experiences with their own part of the world. They then search out other people of like mind and spend their time living comfortably with each other within this viewpoint. Predominantly, this grouping is a normal way of life for everyone. Most of these individuals and groupings are neither interested in other people viewpoint or desire to learn about these differences. It is a fact of history as well as everyday life.

Add in media and social media and there are two platforms for new behaviors. With the media it is all about manipulating the news to keep up interest in any particular group. The stories have to be sensationalized to keep the groups attention. Unfortunately, the media is controlled by people who feel that their opinions are worth more than anyone else’s viewpoint and they want people to conform to their view of life. They use the media platform to manipulate pretty much everyone. They do it not just to get their way which is to get you to believe that what they say is the only way but to continue to get you to buy into their lifestyle. It is all about money, and not your money, they are only interested in making your money their money.

The other side of this is the social media platforms. We all rant and rail against the methods social media platforms use to keep us engaged, but we are manipulated by them. We forget on a daily basis just how much. For these platforms give us a greater voice, one we don’t seem to be able to handle very well, for we react too much of what is on these forums in a negative manner. We spread hate. Instead of gathering together and helping one another we divide and conquer by counting coupe with some kind of snarky comment which shows how superior we are from one another. We all do it. If you say you don’t you are lying. If you think any form of one-sided opinion is anything more than intent to divide people into acceptable and non-acceptable people than you are misguiding your own self. I admit it. I have to fight the behavior every single time I post something on social media. If you think the ability to say the things we say is all about being free then you are mistaken as to what freedom means.

I suppose the only thing that keeps me generally from not pretending that I am above the behavior is my personal beliefs. Oh not the history lessons for they are speaking about the past, but the life lessons, on how I am personally supposed to behave.

I find my peace within the pages of the Bible but I look to God’s greatest command. To find something to love in every single person--without excuse.

 1 John 4:20-21
"Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister."

Matthew 22:36-39
New International Version (NIV)
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Are You Listening To The Music?

Sometimes to tell a story or to teach one has to use an analogy.

Psalm 25:4

Morsels

There is so much out there to sort through nowadays it is easy to get caught up in something that seems Godly but it is not. Don't get trapped by the myriad of visual delights that corrupt our inner sight of God.

1 Peter 2:2

“…as newborn babes, long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation; 2:3 if ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious:”
